what do we have here?
yep, at the serenity preview showing in riverside we went to last night, joss whedon showed up to talk & generally be cool as hell. pictures from the line are here, but our plans of getting good group photos of everyone we'd brought kinda got set aside when joss wandered up to the front of the theater ^_^
kat is the hyperawesome for finding out about the screening, getting tickets, coordinating everything and basically being the best girlfriend ever.
p.s. damn this movie rocks.

so i finally got all of the pictures from the latest vegas trip together! mmmm.... warp core breaches at quark's bar:
kat installed some fancy schmancy new gallery software that will let everyone post comments & stuff (see kat's journal for more detailed info), so they're uploaded there instead of my usual generate-then-upload galleries. so um... go look at all our old photos and post embarrasing comments! quick, before your rivals do it first!

so i finally got around to processing the pictures from this year's Game Developers Conference. go me!
on the first night, we invaded an irish pub next to the hotel... with increasing intoxication and volume as more friends, gamespy coworkers, and various developers joined the group. light levels were very low, so everything's kinda blurry...i'm sure it had nothing to do with how drunk i was. many rounds of jager were consumed:
kornelia was there, doing the usual "line up for me to publicly kick your ass" routine...which i'll never get tired of watching, plus i got to meet her very nice girlfriend. somehow, in all of the previous years she's done this, we'd never gotten pictures of the crowds of hundreds of people she can draw to the booth of whoever's smart enough to hire her...so this time i tried to get some wide shots of the crowds on the last day.
the rest of the pictures from this year are a pretty random selection of crap, both from the show and nearby around sf. probably pretty boring stuff to most, and if i wasn't a lethargic bum i'd caption these so you'd know who the various scruffy game developers were. do note that fargo won a bowling trophy for kicking ass at the Rocket Bowl kiosk in the indie games area.

thanks to joost, another update to the stuff about Spore that i wrote about in my last entry: a couple of people have posted pictures they snuck of Will Wright's demo... something that the legitimate news sites can't really get away with, as the organizers announced a 'no pictures' policy for the session. Dig it:
a lot of them look like they may have come from the same camera, but the different interpretations are good to read. keep in mind that Wright described it as "really rough... held together with baling wire & duct tape" right before he showed something that looked like it had had a lot of fit & finish. sneaky. ^_^
also, whilst i'm playing the total fanboy, a couple weeks ago fargo got a chance to sit down and do an incredibly in-depth interview Will Wright. so um read it & stuff, he's really fucking smart.

in other news, just got back from the 2005 Game Developers Conference... not too many interesting pictures, but a lot of awesome info, learning, and interesting job-related stuff! Highlights were this year's game design challenge: The Emily Dickinson License, and Will Wright's always inspiring talk... this time about his braincrushingly cool new project, Spore. And of course, lots and lots of shots of jager.
oh, and sorry i haven't posted in like fucking forever. ^_^
edit: changed Spore link to *much* better article by Fargo that went up last night.

thanks everyone for making this the best birthday weekend!
i got really really drunk, then the lovely and talented katrina made some special brownies and cornbread, and then a whole buncha people came over for Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, fargo showing off halo 2 (well, mostly garvey playing, actually), then we started watching season one of alias...which chased almost everyone away.
i had sooo much fun... ok, back to your regularly scheduled lack of lj updates.

so pictures from fargo's awesome birthday pirate party are up right here. in the first one you can see katrina's initial pirate costume... hot as hell but too cumbersome for hours of partying.
a few good keepers, but a lot came out a little blurry as usual. i think it's time to have a second memory card on me... had to do a lot of triage at the party.
we had an awesome time... thanks fargo, crystal & katie's awesome planning for entertaining our asses all night.

went out to an early dinner for katie's actual birthDAY to the awesomeness that is Benihana. took a few pictures, and realized that i can just make my out-of-focus shots black & white and pretend that i intended them to be that way. omg so edgy!
then we watched Shade back at our place & tried to figure out card tricks by signle-stepping through frames. no luck. the extra featurette on the card mechanics owns bigtime.

okay, so i decided to try to "debug" my macro technique to see if i could get results more like the other ppl on the macro forum. i set up an easy, controllable studio session, followed all of the tips and suggestions from this forum....and ended up with something pretty cool! this is the underside of a little bit of fern from outside my apt... mmm SPORES!
